Pneumatic Compression Pump
A pneumatic compression pump is a medical device used to help improve circulation and reduce swelling, often used in lymphatic therapy and recovery settings.
It works by applying controlled pressure to the limbs, typically the legs or arms, to promote the movement of fluids, such as blood and lymph, throughout the body.
How it works:
The device consists of an inflatable sleeve or garment (usually worn on the legs, arms, or abdomen) connected to a pump that inflates and deflates the sleeve in a rhythmic pattern.
Inflation and Deflation: The pump inflates the sleeve in sections, either starting from the farthest point (such as the foot or hand) and gradually working upward toward the heart or working to clear the main area of the body followed by the peripheries.
This mimics the natural process of lymphatic drainage and muscle contractions that occur during physical activity.
The pulsing pressure helps to enhance venous return, reduces swelling, and improves lymphatic drainage.
